    I personally wouldn't give them any money, I believe the market would be small, thus payback on investment would probably never happen. I'd be much more inclined, if I were a potential customer leaning in the direction of solar electric water heating, to go for a device that would use the excess power from my existing PV system, to power and control a standard electric water heater, around which I've added at least one foot of extra insulation.
    BTW, except during the worst part of Winter (when we here get almost no PV power anyway) nearly all my hot water is supplied by thermal solar, with no moving parts other than a few manually operated valves.
