Solar water pumps- experience or where to buy?

Town water is costing an arm and leg and we have a dam year round down the bottom of the paddock, not realistic to get power down there, are solar pumps available and cost effective in India?

Where did i get the best solar pump which requires less maintenance?

Solar can be very helpful for pumping water... Your type of solution depends very much on how much water you need to pump... A few gallons per minute from a deep well is one solution. Pumping a high volume of surface water is another.

Some discussions about VFD (Variable Frequency Drives)... Basically a variable frequency inverter with (typically) three phase output. Used to soft start motors (handy for 3 phase well pumps, or pumps with well head starting capacitor) and can also turn an AC motor into a variable speed motor (very handy for pumping applications).

Please feel free to ask more questions. Water pumping is a complex and, for solar, not a cheap solution. But if you spend some time studying the problem and possible solutions--It can be very rewarding.

If you have more water than what you need and some pressure at the base of the dam, you may be able to use a Ram pump. It takes a large low pressure flow and converts the kinetic energy in the flow to much smaller volume of high pressure water. Its very old technology but in the right place its a nice way to go.
