Xantrex has their Xanbus,
Morningstar has something ___ in their new MPPT controller,
Outback uses _____
Midnight uses _____
Will any of these be compatible - is there a standard Alt Energy Buss, or will it stay fragmented and exclusive ?

    Re: Data Protocols

MorningStar uses ModBus ... which is an open standard.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modbus

( I worked at Modicon, in Andover MA in 1979 as a tech ... funny, close to 30 years later I used that protocol they released that year 79' for SC-View )

As far as I know everyone else uses proprietary protocols

    Re: Data Protocols

    Xantrex's Xan-Bus is Modbus now.

MidNite Solar is using a Modbus protocol too, which will be open not too long from now.

Magnum uses their own protocol but is documented on their web site.

OutBack uses something else, not open.

I would say, look forward to Modbus being the closest "standard" for any of this R.E. stuff. Not necessarily the best protocol around, but close enough for inverter work.
