Grid Tie Grocery List

Ordered one of these:
PVP 2000 2000 Watt grid tie inverter 150 to 500 volts DC input

And 3 of these:
Mitsubishi PV-MF120EC4 120 Solar Electric Panel With Junction Box
http://store.solar-electric.com/mipv120soelp.html

Looking to install on my shop and tie in to the grid. Runs shop tools now and maybe more later, about 1000kwh/month.
I just hate having to write a check to someone every month. I'm 66 years old so having a bill irritates me. When they make one of these that runs off a heartbeat I'll be happy. I probably have another 30 years left in me.

Anything else I'll need aside from utility approval and inspections?
Called them and they'll inspect after I get installed next day service.
Building my own frames.

    Won't work ...

you have 36 volts of DC voltage from the solar panels ( 3, 12 volt panels ) and the inverter needs a minimum of 150 volts DC.

you probably need at least quantity 15 , 12 volt panels to have the PV powered unit work

    Building my own frames.

Depending on your building department, you may need an engineer to approve the frames. They have to be strong enough to hold in your area winds, and light enough to not cave the roof in.

Add conduit, J-boxes, wet exposed - 95C rated wire, a utility and maybe DC disconnect. And your existing AC service box needs to be big enough to handle the 2 additional breakers.

What are your inverters input ratings, you need a minimum amount of power to get it going?

As SG indicated, the proposed system won't work due to low PV array voltage.

Allowing for various inefficiencies and an average of 4 hrs/day of "full" sun, the system, if it worked, would generate a net of ~1.2 kWh/day, or 36 kWh/month. This would reduce your monthly electricity bill by ~3%. But, it's a start...
