Another Despicable Solar Business?

I'm trying to research obsolete references to a solar battery charging system for my RV, made back in 2002.

In the process, I came across an online solar installer advertising the following off-grid product.

Type of Products: Off-Grid Solar Power Systems (DC)

Product Name: Small Summer Cottage DC

Production Capacity: 170 watts

Product Kit Includes: PV modules, 1 point of use inverter, charge controller, battery, roof mount for PV
module and battery monitor(wires, cables and other miscellaneous hardware not
included
)

Product Specifications: 2×85W PV module (12V)
1 point of use 500W power inverter
40A charge controller
5.9 kWh battery bank (12V)

Product Warranty: N/A
Prices: $5,200 (installed) or $4,800 (system only)

170 Watts of panel charging almost 6 KW of battery? How DO they stay in business?

    Maybe they make their money selling replacement batteries when that 500 Amp hour 12 Volt unit drops dead due to chronic undercharging.
    A potential of 425 Watt hours AC from the panel means that battery bank is almost 20 times the size the panels can recharge.

    If I wanted to be cruel I'd mention that it's businesses like that that keep my work schedule full. :p
